When a cold high pressure system covers Montana, the skies often clear - making things even colder.

During our recent "below zero" cold spell, Mike Daniels snapped this striking photo of Blodgett Canyon west of Hamilton.

It looks cold, and yes, it was below zero that morning.

Of course, three days later, we had temperatures back into the upper 30s, with quite a bit of melting snow and ice on the valley floor.

Lost Trail Powder Mountain is now open daily from December 22 to January 2 for holiday skiing and snowboarding. The Chief Joseph cross-country ski trails are groomed, too. Dress warmly.
