Work has begun on the new driveway for buses and parents at Hamilton's Daly Elementary School.
Superintendent Duby Santee said the new road will be a one-way route starting on Kurtz Lane east of the school. Vehicles will turn onto the route and drive west, passing the south side of the school building. After dropping off kids (or picking them up), vehicles will continue onto Daly Avenue, with the ability to turn right or left.
A circular drive at the front of the school will become lawn, according to Santee, who said the design is an attempt to make the "loading and unloading" area less confusing.
The school district is also changing the parking at the District Office across Daly Avenue from the school. The parking places in front of the building are being removed and a new paved parking lot is being built on the north side of the building. Sidewalks and an improved pedestrian crossing will be part of the finished project.
