Assassin’s Creed Series Sales Break 73 Million Copies Sold

Assassins Creed
Ubisoft

A recent update to the Ubisoft website told us a surprising fact about our favorite, history-spanning stealth series.

The “About Ubisoft” section of Ubisoft’s official website provides some interesting numbers as to how well the France-based publisher is doing in regards to its specific series throughout the years. While this page provides some pivotal pieces of information, such as Yves Guillemot being the co-founder and CEO of the company and the fact that it was founded in 1986, there are sales figures which break down Ubisoft’s most successful franchises.

Some of these titles, even the less-popular franchises, provide us with some shocking statistics about the company. For example, Ubisoft’s Petz franchise is outselling (as a whole) heavyweight franchises such as Prince of Persia, Far Cry, Driver, Rayman and Rayman Raving Rabbids with a total of 24 million games sold. Beating all of these franchises are three popular series each bearing the Tom Clancy name: Ghost Recon has 25 million units sold, Rainbow Six has 26 million and Splinter Cell sold 30 million total copies. This means that Ubisoft has 81 million games sold total under the Tom Clancy name (starting with Rainbow Six, which first debuted in 1998).

As an individual franchise, Assassin’s Creed reigns supreme with a staggering 73 million games sold since the first game of the series came out in 2007. Given these numbers and the announcement of Assassin’s Creed Unity, it’s safe to say that the Templar and Assassin War isn’t ending anytime soon (then again, it basically spans throughout most of civilized history).
