The sunspot that has been featured on most of the news program March 8th is still growing. It's that white ribbon-like feature on the sun photo and is now about 7 "Earths" wide....that should give you an idea of how big the sun is.

A major coronal mass ejection has already gone past the Earth, but the solar wind is bringing more material this way, so be ready for possible aurora activity. The moon is full, so it will wash out some of the colors, but look up anyway.

The Solar Dynamics Observatory website reports that the sunspot continues to grow as is rolls across the sun's face. There are other active areas that could cause radio static and cause some communications disruptions, too.

The satellites that are constantly observing the sun have provided some great photos and an amazing amount of information. If you're interested in that sort of thing, go to the Solar Dynamics website.
