Saturday, July 16, the ribbon-cutting of the Bitterroot Trail will bring a plethora of bicycles into the valley from Missoula to Lolo. That ribbon-cutting on the new trail will be at noon at the Travelers Rest State Park in Lolo, just up Highway 12.

Two other bicycle events will continue the biking fun in the valley.

In Stevensville, also Saturday, the first Bike and Brew gathering will happen from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Second Street and Main, with children's activities from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., and from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. music with the New Matics, food, beer garden and more. The public is invited to see the new Bike Camp at the Stevensville Hotel.

Sunday, the bicycles will invade the Skalkaho area south of Hamilton with Tour of the Bitterroot supporting the Bitterroot Land Trust. (see photo)

The most intensive ride will be the Skalkaho Mountain Tour, where riders will start at 7 a.m. from Red Barn Bicycles on Sleeping Child Road, head up Skalkaho Highway turn on the Skalkaho-Rye Road and follow the forest service road until it brings riders back down to the Sleeping Child Road, and back to Red Barn Bicycles.

The Sleeping Child Ride starts at 9 a.m. for the whole family, with a scenic ride at a less intense pace up the Sleeping Child road and back. You'll want to time your ride so you're back by noon, when the barbeque will be served at Red Barn.

The kids will have the Kidz Dirt Road Derby on McCarthy Loop at 1:30 p.m. lots of fun and prizes. Check out their website.
