Bitter Root RC&D is Best in the Nation
The National Association of RC&D Councils awarded the Bitter Root RC&D the 2010 RC&D Council of the year.
The non-profit local council serves Ravalli, Missoula and Mineral Counties of Montana and were honored at a National Leadership Conference in Washington DC Feb 14th. The award was presented to the Bitter Root RC&D March 16th at the Western RC&D Association Conference in Lewiston ID.
Also this year, Becki Koon was awarded the Western Association 2011 Outstanding Program Assistant of the Year.
There are 375 councils in the US and the Bitterroot RC&D has been around for 46 years and has helped over 1,500 projects. Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) councils assist rural communities in a wide variety of ways. For instance, the Bitterroot organization has helped with private land restoration after the Fires of 2000, helped the Darby and Victor Fuels for Schools projects get off the ground, works with community gardens, farmers markets and food banks and has an ongoing series of workshops for first-time homebuyers.
