Hamilton's radio station, News Talk 1240 KLYQ, was honored with the "Community Asset" award by the Bitterroot Chamber of Commerce at the organization's annual banquet.

The chamber noted the station's involvement in valley activities and coverage of news. They highlighted the station's popular Event Show, an hour-long live community interview show on Fridays. The Chamber also thanked Brand Manager Steve Fullerton and Account Executive Mike McConnell for their help in almost every Chamber of Commerce project.

Fullerton was on hand to accept the award on behalf of Townsquare Media, owner of the station.

The Bitterroot Chamber of Commerce has previously honored both McConnell and Fullerton in earlier years for their contributions to the organization and the community.
In an interesting sidelight, former KLYQ sales manager Donna Larson Shulund also received an award at the banquet. She was presented the "Laurel" Award, for her dedication to the Chamber. Donna is a Realtor for Lambros Realty.

Dex Dexter and Stan Hooper started the AM radio station in 1961. KLYQ has gone through many changes since then, including surviving a major downtown fire in the 1980s. Originally a daytime only station at 980 on the dial, KLYQ moved down the dial to 1240 and later began 24-hour broadcasting, also adding an FM signal which became Magic 96 FM, and is currently The Blaze, with studios in Missoula. The AM station has remained in Hamilton and is the only radio station with broadcast studios in town
