Thursday, July 28, was a spectacular summer evening. And at the Daly Mansion, northeast of Hamilton, the Bitterroot Community Band added music to the mix.

It was the band's annual fund-raiser. They charged admission and then sold strawberry shortcake at the intermission, served up by members of the Bitterroot Women's Club.

The music ranged from the "Hogan's Heroes" TV theme to a medley of hits from the group Chicago. The volunteer musicians include some high school music instructors, including Stevensville band director Jeremy Ruff, who is the conductor of the Bitterroot Community Band.

As the last selection for the band's performance, the audience joined in to sing the state song, "Montana."

The band will play next at Stevensville's Creamery Picnic August 6 at 1 p.m. Their next free bandshell performance at Claudia Driscoll Park in Hamilton will be August 11 at 8 p.m.
