Four Ravalli County groups will do some needed trail maintenance Saturday as part of National Trails Day June 1.

Tod McKay of the Bitterroot National Forest said the groups are the Bitterroot Backcountry Cyclists, the Ravalli County Off Road Users Association, the Selway-Pintlar Wilderness Backcountry Horsemen and the Bitter Root Back Country Horsemen.

This is the 6th year that the Bitterroot National Forest has hosted groups for National Trails Day projects.

The projects are:

  • Bitterroot Backcountry Cyclists - Sula Ranger District - Warm Springs Creek #103, Warm Spring Ridge #171, Fire Creek $404 and Porcupine Creek Trail #205.
  • Ravalli County Off Road Users - West Fork Ranger District - Lower section of Overwhich Trail #674.
  • Selway-Pintlar Wilderness Backcountry Horsemen - Darby Ranger District - Weasel Creek Trail #156.
  • Bitter Root Back Country Horsemen - Sula Ranger District - East Fork Trail #433.
  • The work will be general trail maintenance and clean up, clearing down trees, cutting back heavy brush and scouting trails for larger projects needed.

And, unfortunately, some of the work will picking up litter. Arrggh! If you're using our great natural forests, "leave no trace." These great volunteers have better things to do than picking up your trash.

    Celebrate our trails!
