Humanities Montana awarded two grants to Bitterroot organizations this spring to promote understanding of Native American culture and history.

The Ravalli County Museum (see photo) will get $3,399 to bring to Hamilton a traveling display called "Nez Perce Trail Traveling Exhibit:Celebrating the Trail and the People."

The Bitterroot College of University of Montana in Hamilton will receive $4,984 to support a program to promote better understanding and awareness of the Salish culture and Montana history in the Bitterroot Valley. The program is called "The Medicine Tree: A Catalyst for Dialogue."

Humanities Montana awarded over $18,000 this spring, supporting everything from book discussions to conferences. the Montana program is an independent affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
