Bitterroot Mushers Ready for Darby Dog Derby Sled Dog Race
At the top of the pass, the dogs will be runnin’ this weekend.
The 6th Annual Darby Dog Derby Sled Dog Race is Saturday and Sunday, right next to the Gibbons Pass Road #1260 at Lost Trail Pass.
Nicki Arndt of the Bitterroot Mushers expects a good group of races, with more sponsors this year and bigger cash prizes for competitors.
She’s also excited about two other events associated with the 8-dog, 6-dog and 4-dog races. There are kiddie races – very short length and very safe. And there’s some ski-joring planned, too.
There’s a great video that takes you along a beautiful trail behind the dogs on the Bitterroot Mushers website.
The weekend starts with a “Meet the Racers” evening Friday at the Naughty Moose restaurant near Conner and the races start early both Saturday and Sunday at the top of the pass. Parking is limited, so carpool if you plan to come watch. No admission charge for spectators.
