On a blustery spring day, high school seniors from Hamilton, Corvallis and Victor watched their friends act out a fatal car accident in the "Your Choice" program.

The scene at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds showed the results of someone drinking and driving, with a slight twist. The drunk driver hit a car full of students familiar with the crowd. One was "killed" and the others were extricated from the car and treated by Bitterroot Valley emergency responders. Fake blood and realistic screams added to the scene.

Hamilton Police, Ravalli County Sheriff, Hamilton Volunteer Firemen, Montana Highway Patrol, Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital ambulance crews and EMTs, and St Patrick Hospital Lifeflight helicopter personnel showed their expertise in responding to the accident.

The staged accident was topped off by a short speech from an accident victim who lived through a head-on collision with a drunk driver.

The live action demonstration has been an annual event in Hamilton, first at Hamilton High School's Haynes Field, and moving to the Ravalli County Fairgrounds for the last few years.

The lessons learned, according to one of the organizers Nathan Brady, include making good choices in life, and being alert while driving.
