Bitterroot Valley Bird on a Wire

kingfisher
A Belted Kingfisher. (Fullerton Photo)
I was driving along the East Side Highway December 17 by the Hamilton Airport when I saw this little bird up on the powerline.

I snapped a photo and sent it to our buddy Bob Danley at the Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge. It didn’t take long for him to respond with the identity of the little guy.

It’s a Belted Kingfisher, with an appetite for fish. The bird usually has a burrow in the riverbank and goes fishin’ year-round.
