Bitterroot Valley students and parents will be learning about scholarship availability at a Thursday evening meeting in Hamilton.

Valley Oak Education Resource Center offers advice to families in Missoula and Ravalli Counties about scholarships. Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital has made their conference rooms available for the September 15 meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Valley Oak is a non-profit organization that provides workshops and mentoring to help students understand the unwritten rules for obtaining scholarships. They have helped almost 100 youth and families this year.

Valley Oak Director Patricia Meakin said that "numerous scholarships are available for all students, regardless of income or ethnic background and you do not have to have a 4.0 GPA."

She encouraged students to start looking for scholarships early, even as high school freshmen, because some applications require a record of public service and writing ability.
