In the first day of action at the Western Class A basketball tournament, the host Hamilton Lady Broncs lost to a powerful Columbia Falls team 55 to 28.

The Lady Wildcats led throughout the game, but Hamilton closed the gap a few times during the afternoon contest. But Columbia Falls owned the lion's share of the scoring and finished with a win - 55 to 28.

Hamilton will play Friday morning at 9:45 a.m. in loser-out action. Columbia Falls, meanwhile, will play the winner of Wednesday's Butte Central-Polson game Friday at 3 p.m.

Earlier Wednesday, good news and bad news for Stevensville.

The Stevensville Lady Yellowjackets took down Whitefish 65 to 44 and advances to a 12:45 p.m. game against Dillon Thursday.
The Yellowjacket boys team dropped a close one to Columbia Falls 54 to 51 and will go to the loser-out bracket for a game Thursday evening at about 7:45 p.m.

Corvallis boys will play at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Polson and the Corvallis girls will go against Frenchtown Thursday at 11 a.m.
