There were 46 middle school teams in the Montana Science Olympiad competition this year. The winner was the Corvallis team.

By winning, they will continue in the national competition at Dayton, Ohio on May 17-18. The event will be at Wright State University. Categories for Division B (6th through 9th grades) include Life and Social Sciences, Physical Science & Chemistry, Earth & Space Science, Technology & Engineering, and Inquiry and Nature of Science. As you can tell, the team has to excel in multiple disciplines.

In order to get there, they need to raise some money. One of the premiere fundraising events will be a Bitterroot Brewery fundraiser in Hamilton Sunday, January 27, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Besides earning 50 cents from each drink purchased during those hours, the team will also have a bake sale and baked good silent auction. The food items on the auction block will be cookies, brownies, cakes and pies.

The team also has a raffle for a 4-H-raised beef that was purchased at Missoula's Western Montana Fair. It has been cut and packaged in 1 to 2 pound packages for a total of 673 pounds of beef.
