Appointments and nominations for a number of government offices were announced this week.

From Montana Governor-elect Steve Bullock:

  • Ron DeYong of Kalispell was nominated as Director of the Department of Agriculture for Montana. He taught agriculture and economics at Cal Poly State and has been an economist for the National Farmers Union. He has degrees from both MSU and UM.
  • Jason Smith of Billings is the nominee for Director of Indian Affairs. Smith has been at the Montana Department of Commerce as the State Tribal Economic Development Program Manager. He graduated from the Salish Kootenai College.
  • Bullock nominated Major General Matthew T. Quinn as the Director of Military Affairs and Adjutant General. Major Quinn has been the Adjutant General since April of last year. He is a veteran of both Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
  • The U.S. Senate has confirmed Montana's Keith Kelly as the Assistant Secretary of Labor for the Veterans' Employment and Training. Kill has been Commissioner of the Montana Department of Labor and Industry. He served with the 101st Airborne and has the a Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman's Badge. He was nominated by Senator Jon Tester.

    Thursday, January 3rd, Steve Daines of Bozeman will be sworn in as Montana's Congressman in the House of Representatives. He will be part of the "en masse" oath on the floor of the House of Representatives at noon. The individual ceremony will be conducted by House Speaker John Boehner at 3 p.m.

    Elected in November, Daines has learned that he will be serving on the House Committees of Natural Resources, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Homeland Security.
