Darby Raises New Flag for Veterans Day Event
Veterans Day is on a Sunday this year, November 11. The federal holiday will be Monday. Here in the Bitterroot Valley, observances will be mainly on Sunday.
Darby folks will be at the south end of town where the old flag at the South Valley Veterans Memorial Park will be retired at a ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday, followed by the raising of a new American flag. Music will be performed by the Montana A Capella Society.
Another feature of the day will be Darby Mayor Rick Scheele at the barbeque, cookin’ up hot dogs for the crowd. By the way, donations for the upkeep of the memorial will be appreciated.
In Hamilton, the Annual Veterans Day Observance will be at 2 p.m. at the Ravalli County Museum. The laying of the wreaths at the World War I doughboy statue will be done by the local Veterans organizations and auxiliaries. There will be a program and refreshments on the second floor of the museum.For more information, call 363-3338.
The Eagles Auxiliary sends cookies to our active service men and women, donated by various members of the community.
The Marine Corps Birthday Ball will be at the Eagles Lodge in Hamilton, Saturday November 10, starting at 6 p.m.
Stevensville’s American Legion Post 94 will have a Veterans Day pot luck dinner Sunday at 6:30 p.m. All veterans are welcome. The meat, rolls and drinks will be provided. Call 777-2687 for more information.
