Drive A Veteran to Health
The Bitterroot Valley Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Volunteer Transportation Network needs more drivers.
In both the Missoula and Ravalli County areas, the vans are used to take vets to medical appointments.
The time commitment is negotiable and the need is great. You can easily help veterans by volunteering.
The number to call in the Bitterroot Valley is 363-8396. In Missoula, call 207-1468.
In a related story, Sen. Jon Tester announced that veterans will have more ways to get medical care with the new Rural Veterans Healthcare Improvement Act.
The law provides grants to the DAV to purchase vans and provide travel assistance to veterans seeking medical care at VA facilities miles away from where they live in rural areas of the country. The grants are for areas with fewer than 7 people per square mile – which includes all but 9 counties in Montana.
The Veterans Administration is accepting feedback on its proposal and plans to make its first grants this year, Tester said.
