Montana has a present for Fathers Day. All fathers and their families can fish without a fishing license June 16 and 17.

The free fishing weekend was passed into law by the last legislative session and applies to all waters where a Montana state fishing license is required.

Joe Maurier, director of Montana Fish Wildlife and Park, does caution anglers to be aware of high spring water and to follow all fishing regulations.

In the Bitterroot Valley, the main channel of the Bitterroot River is still running high and cloudy, but some successes have been reported. The better fishing this weekend would probably be in the south end of the valley and at Lake Como.

The FWP website has some great information on fishing. Check it out before you start your fishing trip.
