Forest Fire Flares Up East of Florence

A 40-acre forest fire is burning on state land east of Florence in the Bitterroot Valley.

The Three Mile fire grew rapidly in the hot,dry 90-degree weather Friday, August 29. It is located in the Three Mile Wildlife Management Area in the Sapphire Mountains.

Engines from Stevensville, Florence, Three Mile and the Bitterroot National Forest have responded. The Lolo Hotshot crew will also join the fight.

Three helicopters and two single engine air tankers were dropping water and retardant, according to a report on the Bitterroot National Forest’s Facebook page, Discover the Bitterroot. The report said no structures are threatened.
