FWP At Odds With Tribes Over Flathead Lake Trout [AUDIO]

What to do with the Lake trout in Flathead Lake? The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes want to gill-net thousands of Lake trout to keep the lake safe for native Bull trout…however, Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks are backing away from a NEPA (National Environmental Police Act) proposal so they can have more time to gather options. I spoke with FWP Kalispell Regional Supervisor Jim Satterfield about the conflict. That interview is attached.
Satterfield says it will be several months or perhaps even a year before FWP can gather more ideas and options regarding Flathead Lake’s Lake trout population.
