Games Cancelled – Bad Air in Western Montana
The predicted winds did not reach the valley floor Friday during the daylight hours. The forest fire smoke drove the particulate level at the Hamilton Courthouse air monitor up to Very Unhealthy and the cumulative rankings reached the Hazardous levels.
The smoke also spread into the Missoula Valley, and we’ve received reports of unusually thick smoke at Polson, too.
Valley high school athletics have been impacted all week. For instance, Hamilton’s and Stevensville’s soccer games were cancelled. And the Friday night Hamilton Bronc football game at Frenchtown has been postponed until Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
KLYQ will carry the live play-by-play of that game of the Hamilton Broncs against the Frenchtown Broncs, if it is played Saturday morning. If not, the game will probably be cancelled.
The Hamilton Invitational High School Golf Tournament had been scheduled for Saturday at the Hamilton Golf Course. It was cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
By the way, the Friday Hamilton-Stevensville soccer games have been tentatively rescheduled for next Friday, September 21, at the Hamilton soccer fields.
By 7 p.m. Friday, the Sawtooth Fire had only grown 100 acres, with some single tree torching. The five helicopters kept dumping water on hot spots. Officials estimate about 123,000 gallons of water was dropped on the fire Friday. The evacuation zones remain unchanged as of Friday evening.
