Gold Pan Fire in Time-Lapse Satellite View from July 21st
The Gold Pan forest fire, in the West Fork Ranger District of the Bitterroot National Forest, is over 11,000 acres and is expected to grow.
The Bitterroot National Forest has ordered a Type 1 Fire Management Team that will take over operations Wednesday, July 31. The fire has caused the closure of the Magruder Road at Nez Perce Pass.
The National Weather Service in Missoula made this time-lapse video available from a NOAA satellite on July 21. The fire had been burning since lightning struck a tree July 16, but it woke up on this day.
The Missoula Weather Service Office has a good Facebook page, too.
