Gold Pan Fire Jumps Toward the Magruder Corridor
The Gold Pan forest fire in the Frank Church Wilderness is now over 5,000 acres and the fire has jumped the Selway River. It is moving closer to the Magruder Ranger Station and a Type 2 Fire Management Team will take over the Gold Pan and the much smaller Goat wilderness fire this weekend.
The hot and dry weather is causing more “holdover” lightning strike fires to finally pop up and there is a chance for more lightning in the next few days.
On the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, the 100 acre Moose Meadow Fire is 20 miles southwest of Philipsburg near Moose Mountain. Five helicopters, two air tankers, two dozers and numerous handcrews are on the scene.
Stage 1 fire restrictions go into effect August 1.
