Gold Pan Fire Update
The 42,000 acre Gold Pan Complex of forest fires has continued burning – with isolated “torching” and some creeping fire along the ground, according to the latest Bitterroot National Forest news release.
The fire has been burning in the Jack the Ripper Creek and the upper Blue Joint drainage, where a helicopter has been dropping water on hot spots.
The Magruder Road is open, but crews continue to clear rocks and debris from the roadway, and are patrolling for snags and fire along the corridor. The Selway Road to Paradise is closed while crews repair mudslide damage.
The fire management will be turned over to the local West Fork Ranger District Friday.
Stage 1 fire restrictions dealing with campfires will be rescinded in the Bitterroot on Friday, but Ravalli County and Missoula County still have bans on any Open Burning.
And if you do have a campfire, make sure it’s OUT – cold to the touch – before leaving it.
