Grantsdale School Closes After Over 100 Years of Operation
The lunch was free to all the adults and students, the music was fun from the 2nd through 5th Grades, and the words were poignant from retiring principal Kathleen Dent, who will be the last principal of Grantsdale Elementary School, which closed Thursday, June 6. It started classes in 1889.
Following the program of music and short speeches, the students retired the flag and then – one by one – all the students were given a chance to pull on the rope and ring the school bell.
The bell – and its timberframe tower – will have a home at the Ravalli County Museum, but fundraising has already started by the Bitterroot Historical Society to pay for transport and installation. Bricks are being sold that will be part of the foundation.
KLYQ Radio will have more about the final day at Grantsdale School on Friday’s 7:30 a.m. news and during the Event Show at 8 a.m.
