Grantsdale Welcomes New Fire Station
Saturday, August 11, the folks in the Grantsdale area will be getting free hamburgers and hot dogs and tours of the new Skalkaho Fire Station from 11 to 2.
The building was requested by the community to help provide faster response to fires south of Hamilton in the Hamilton Fire District. The building has been “operational” through the winter with equipment already in place, but now is the time for the Grand Opening and Open House.
The three-bay station is at the corner of Ponderosa Drive and the Skalkaho Highway, just south of Grantsdale. The Hamilton volunteer firefighters who live in the area will respond to that station during a fire call.
And the department is actively looking for more firefighters in the Grantsdale area for Fire Station Number Three. If someone is interested, leave a message at 363-6338.
Fire Station Number Two was built a few years ago in the Charlos Heights area on Highway 93. Firefighters are being encouraged to join the department from that area, too.
The Skalkaho station is also becoming a “fill” site, where trucks can refill their water supplies instead of going to the main fire hall in downtown Hamilton.
