Grebe and Friend Floating in Bitterroot
The much smaller bird in this photo is a diving bird called a Grebe. The large bird is a female Mallard duck.
Grebes are diving birds and are similar to the loon family. The Mallard, on the other hand, is one of the larger ducks that are very familiar to folks here in the Bitterroot Valley.
These two were seen recently floating on a pond on the north end of Hamilton.
