Hamilton City Council Approves Bitterroot College Plan
The Bitterroot College of the University of Montana will be moving onto Hamilton’s Main Street this fall.
The Hamilton City Council voted unanimously to accept a development plan, including parking and curb improvements over the next five years, at Tuesday’s council meeting. The approval was the final hurdle to allow the burgeoning community college to move into larger quarters at the former Hamilton Middle School.
The Hamilton School Board will lease the building to the college, which has been overgrowing its classrooms at the Bitterroot Entrepreneurship Center on Old Corvallis Road, on the northeast edge of Hamilton.
The Montana Board of Regents previously approved the project, and Bitterroot College Director Victoria Clark said Tuesday’s council decision allows the remodeling to start, with the first classes expected to be held at the Westview this fall.
The Bitterroot College has seen remarkable growth in its first years of operation and classes are being added each semester. Off-street parking around the Westview building was the main concern of Hamilton council.
