Hamilton Gets Ready for “Buy Local” Auction
Last year, the bids reached into the thousands of dollars for bicycles and other new merchandise at a unique auction during Daly Days in Hamilton.
It was the initial “Buy Local” Auction – an idea that the Hamilton Downtown Association endorsed and decided to do again this year. It will happen Friday, July 27 on Hamilton’s Main Street.
During this past year, merchants were encouraging their customers to keep their receipts of purchases made in Hamilton. Next Friday, the first day of Daly Days, the customers can bring all their receipts to the official check-in booth. Those receipts will be added together and the total can be used to bid during the auction.
No money changes hands. Only the receipt totals are used. And the bidding can be a little crazy.
Participants were often surprised at how big a total they had to work with. The items in the auction are top quality. It’s a way for the Hamilton merchants to say “thank you” to their customers and provide lots of smiles.
After the auction, the Friday Night Street Dance kicks into high gear. There’s no cash during the auction, but there’s lots of cash at the dance … Johnny Cash, that is. The Johnny Cash tribute band “Cold Hard Cash” will take you back in time.
