Hamilton is Curious about Shakespeare in the Parks’ Butte Setting
Tuesday evening, August 19, the acclaimed Montana Shakespeare in the Parks troupe will be in Hamilton to perform "As You Like It."
This version of the classic comedy will be set in Butte, Montana, during the days of the Copper Kings.
The words will be from Shakespeare's times, but the costumes and setting will be rough and ready from the days of mining and the early days of Montana.
The play is presented free of charge, courtesy of Sapphire Lutheran Homes, and will be on their large lawn at 501 North 10th Street in Hamilton. It will start promptly at 6 p.m., though the audience is encouraged to come early and bring their picnic suppers on the grass.
This is the 42nd season for the tour. The performers rehearse at Montana State University in Bozeman. Then, in 10 weeks, the plays "Romeo and Juliet" and "As You Like It" will be performed 75 times in 61 communities in Montana, Idaho, North Dakota, Wyoming and Washington state.
