The paved surface of Pinckney Street in Hamilton was in danger of becoming a low-level roller coaster in the 100 and 200 blocks.

So, this week, the Hamilton Street Department took out the larger "hills." But, in order to make sure the swayback road doesn't return, the material under the pavement needed to be properly dug up and compacted. The backhoes were brought in and the holes got deeper.

As a result, the intersection of Pinckney at 2nd Street is only open to traffic going north and south. At 3rd and Pinckney, you cannot travel east.To reach the businesses between 2nd and 3rd (which include Ravalli County Bank's main office and Bitterroot Furniture) you've got to park your car and walk a half block.

The City of Hamilton asks for your patience while they work to improve the street.
