A leaking boiler has caused school officials to close the Hamilton Middle School for a day.

The Wednesday, December 11, closure of the school on South 5th Street in Hamilton was due to a problem with water leaking from the massive boiler and also an apparent electrical problem, according to officials.

Parents and students were alerted through an automated telephone message that went out early last evening.

The daylong closure will not affect other schools in the district.

This is the second school in western Montana to be affected by a malfunctioning heating system. Frenchtown school was closed Tuesday for repairs on their boiler, which was apparently caused by the long stretch of cold weather.
