Should the wolverine be considered an Endangered Species by the US Fish and Wildlife Service?
The department announced that it will decide by September 30 of 2013 if the animal should be given full protection of the Endangered Species Act. The wolverine became a candidate for inclusion in December of last year, and the 2013 deadline moved the animal to near the top of the list of more than 250 species being considered.
The wolverine is found in at least five states, including Montana, and the population might be as low as 300 animals with only 35 individuals breeding.
