Helen Bibler Dies from Burn Injuries in House Fire
Helen Ann Bibler, age 72, died from burn-related injuries Friday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Bibler was a former director of the Ravalli County Museum. She served in that position for 17 years.
Hamilton fire chief Brad Mohn said the fire broke out Thursday afternoon after Bibler had been smoking while on oxygen. Firemen pulled her from the second-story apartment and she was treated at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital before being sent to the burn specialists at Seattle.
While she was director of the museum, Helen Ann helped acquire the photo archives of photographers Ernst Peterson and Bertie Lord. She and husband Jim Parker also decided to start a farmers market on the streets next to the building to increase the Saturday attendance at the museum. That market celebrated its 25th year this summer and had a special ceremony honoring Bibler.
Her apartment, where the fire occurred, was across the street from the museum.
