This magpie was obviously trying to keep its talons dry by hitching a horseback ride this week.

The 40 to 50 degree temperatures have been creating large puddles (or mini-lakes) throughout the Western Montana and the Bitterroot Valley. Some of those waterways are icy under the surface, too.

National Weather Service forecasters are predicting more "seasonable" temperatures this weekend, with highs barely into the 30s and lows back into the teens. Not much chance for precipitation or snow or rain, either.

Stay out of the puddles as best you can. There's room on the horse....
