The younger generation is taking a crack at a funny stage play at the Hamilton Playhouse.

The local kindergarten through high school students are performing "Once Upon A Mattress for a two-weekend run at the theater west of Hamilton.

The play is based on the famous fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea," about the delicate nature of a "true" member of royalty.

On Broadway, the show was a great vehicle for Carol Burnett. The adults of the Hamilton Players performed it way back when they were still using Hamilton City Hall for a theater.

The musical comedy has been adapted for the younger actors, but the music and laughs are again central to telling the tale.

The show will be Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. the weekends of October 28 and November 4. Tickets are available at the Hamilton Players box office; call 375-9050 in the afternoons. Or you can get your tickets online at the Hamilton Players website.
