Idaho Fire Near Riggins Grows to 1,000 Acres
The Gun Club fire near Riggins, Idaho had grown to over 1,000 acres by Friday afternoon.
The fire started Wednesday evening a mile west of the Time Zone Bridge and is burning in steep grassy areas, according to Jeannette Dreadfulwater of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest.
The fire, south of Grangeville, is visible from Highway 95. Crews are working on fire lines on the north side of the fire.Helicopters and air tankers are dropping water and retardant on the blaze, as crews try to keep the fire south of Lightning Creek, north and east of the Salmon River.
A Type 2 incident management team is taking over fire management. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
