Infamous E.T. Cartridges Found in New Mexico

ET
Atari

It’s finally happened. The urban legend has finally been revealed to be true thanks to the uncovering of the infamous E.T. game cartridges.

The E.T. games for Atari have finally been dug up thanks to the efforts of Microsoft. Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb was on site and live-tweeting the results of the dig, showing us the very first game that was found.

The cartridges were found along with other games, still shrink-wrapped in Alamogordo, New Mexico. These games were thought to have been originally buried in the landfill back in 1983 after the great video game crash.

It’s believed that millions of these cartridges have been buried in the landfill, but according to Kotaku, the AP reports that “hundreds” have been found. More might likely be buried deep beneath the sands, but we’ll update you on this story as the crew continues to dig deep into video game history.
