Lady Griz to Host Fundraiser Prior to Saturday’s Game for NW Burn Center
This morning Lady Griz player Alyssa Smith dropped by some of our sister stations to talk about a cause she is very passionate about. She is working with the Northwest Burn Foundation to make more people aware of their work and to help them raise funds. She tells a very compelling story in this video.
Alyssa is from Monroe, Wash. where she played high school basketball at Archbishop Murphy High School. She sustained third-degree burns on her hands when she was 2 years-old. She started going to The Northwest Burn Foundation’s Camp Eyabsut (which is Snoqualmie for rise above anything) when she was 7. She has been a counselor at the camp for three years.
Smith is a junior at the University of Montana, and plays forward on the Lady Griz basketball team.
This Saturday, Jan. 28, the Lady Griz game will feature a Northwest Burn Foundation information table at the main Dahlberg Arena entrance. The team will also be holding a bake sale and fans are encouraged to donate to the foundation by dropping money into boots that will be circulated around the arena by members of the Missoula Fire Department. The game starts at 2 p.m., but the events for the burn foundation will begin at 1 p.m.
