At a meeting Tuesday evening, the Hamilton School Board interviewed the candidates and then appointed Lavon Heath to a vacancy on the board.

Heath, who has children in the Hamilton Schools, will serve for the next five months, replacing Nancy Ballance, who was elected to the Montana Legislature last November.

Heath has volunteered in the schools - in her children's classes and in the SPECTRA program. One of her children has graduated from Hamilton and three others are currently enrolled.

She has a BA in English and a minor in Math and is interested in curriculum issues. In fact, she has already been place on the district's Curriculum Committee, according to a news release from the District Office.

Her first meeting will be the next regular board meeting Monday, January 14.
