A diversion dam on the Bitterroot River, about a mile and a half north of the Woodside Bridge, has created dangerous conditions for boaters, including one fatality.

Sen. Jon Tester last week announced a $300,000 Army Corps of Engineers grant that might complete funding for the safety project. The Bitterroot Conservation District will have an project Open House February 22 at their office just south of Mildenberger Motors on US 93 in Hamilton.

The open house, at 1709 North First, will be at 5:30 p.m. and will include an engineer to talk about the project plans. Work is tentatively scheduled for this fall.

Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks fisheries biologist Chris Clancy talked to KLYQ Radio recently about the project and what is hoped to be accomplished.
