The forest road leading to Saddle Mountain and the Divide Trail will be closed until early October to allow logging activity at Lost Trail Ski Area.

The logging has been on-going since last fall on about 225 acres that have been attacked by the Mountain Pine Beetle. And now, the "yarding" of logs will cause the road closure, with much of the activity at the base of chairlift #2.

Tod McKay, Public Information Officer with the Bitterroot National Forest, said the logging will fill over 300 logging trucks and heavy equipment will be using the road during this part of the logging operation.

He said the trail is popular with mountain bikers, hikers and bow hunters.

He said the road will be re-opened as soon as possible. Forest Service records show that Lost Trail Powder Mountain is one of the most popular areas on the Bitterroot National Forest with over 45,000 visiting annually.
