Lutz Fire Is A-Smokin’
The lightning-caused Lutz Fire is burning within current parameters, according to Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest officials.
The forest fire, south of Skalkaho Pass in the Emerine Ridge area, is about 320 acres with occasional torching. The fire has caused the closure of Sand Basin road from the intersection with Bowls Road 5071. Skalkaho Pass is not affected by the fire.
Officials are using a “modified suppression” strategy to limit threats to area white bark pine, the Emerine electronics site and a some private property in the area.
The forest fire started from a storm August 6th.
The accompanying photo was taken Wednesday evening from the Bitterroot Valley. By the way, most of the Lutz Fire smoke is drifting east of the valley.
