Mallard and Muskrat at Metcalf

The Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge is home to many different animals. Occasionally, the different species seem to communicate with each other.

This mallard duck was curious about the brown muskrat that was floating in the same pond on the refuge. Photographer Mike Daniels watched as they almost got nose-to-nose before the muskrat “turned tail” and dove.

Bless the beasts and the children on this Christmas day.
