The state of Idaho has given permission to the specialty moving company Omega-Morgan to move the latest megaload across the state to the Montana border.

That route takes the 450-ton cargo on highways through Homedale, Mountain Home, Fairfield, Arco and Salmon and up to the top of Lost Trail Pass at the south end of the Bitterroot Valley (see photo).

However, the Montana Department of Transportation has not yet issued a permit for the oversized load to move through the Bitterroot Valley and the rest of Montana, on its way to Canada.

Weather has been a factor, with the most recent snowstorm Friday delaying the shipment from entering Idaho, according to spokeswoman Holly Zander. Other delays have been from environmentalists who contend the tar-sands development will contribute to global warming. Organizers are planning more demonstrations in the Missoula area.
