Missoula Police responded to a 911 call just before 4:00 a.m. on Saturday , August 19, in what ended up being a felony case. Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

"Officers responded to the 1900 block of South 4th Street West to a residence there where a man had called for an EMS because of an injury to his fiance. Officers accompanied the Emergency Medial Technicians and found that the adult female was found to be suffering from a laceration to her forehead."

It turns out that the laceration was likely caused by the woman's fiance: 32-year-old Justin Gerken.

"The investigation revealed that it was the result of a glass being thrown, which struck her in the head," Welsh said. "It seems that Mr. Gerken was looking for cigarettes in the home and was frustrated that his fiance was either not telling him where they were or helping him locate them in the home."

Gerken was charged with assault with a weapon for throwing the glass at his fiance, he also received a misdemeanor charge of partner or family member assault.
