Mountain Lion Work Group to Meet in Missoula This Week
The Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks’ mountain lion work group will be discussing harvest quotas for mountain lions in Region 2, which includes Ravalli County.
The group will meet in daylong sessions Wednesday and Thursday, May 7 and 8, in Missoula at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation at 5705 Grant Creek Road. They will be session from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The public is invited to observe the proceedings.
The group is a 12-person panel of volunteers with knowledge of the hunting districts in west central Montana. Dr. Mike Mitchell of the Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit at UM will facilitate the discussions.
This is the last meeting of the work group, according to Vivaca Crowser of FWP. She said the department plans to release the group’s recommendations on May 12. The report will be considered with public comment before a hunting season is established in June.
