It's called the 41 Complex and it started in a slow-moving lightning storm Sunday night. Tuesday morning, it was about 100 acres. It's bigger now. We'll update you on the size when it becomes available.
The Bitterroot National Forest had at least nine fires started by the storm Sunday night and Monday morning. Five of the fires were in the vicinity of the 41 Complex. The others were up the West Fork.
The 41 Complex fire in the Sapphire Mountains is about 10 miles east of Hamilton and more personnel are on the way to the fire lines. Two helicopters have been dumping water on the blaze. There are a few smaller spot fires to the south of the main fire, also shown in the accompanying photo. No structures are threatened at the present time.
The Gird Road is closed, due to the fire and fire traffic. A "red flag" weather alert is in effect for the area due to a cold front moving in from the coast.
